The Golden Compass tells the extraordinary story of a young girl named Lyra, and her quest to rescue her best friend, Roger, who has been abducted by evil forces know only as "the Gobblers".

Together with her daemon, Pan, Lyra begins a journey to the frozen splendor of the North. With the help of a magical truth-telling golden compass and a few new friends -- Iorek, a giant armored bear, Serafina, the Queen of the witches, and Lee Scoresby, an eccentric Texan with a flying machine - Lyra will navigate her way through a perilous parallel universe where a battle between the forces of good and evil is raging.
