The National Trust

For ever, for everyone

Established in 1895, The National Trust preserves and protects the countryside, coastlines and buildings of England, Wales and Northern Ireland through practical caring and conservation, learning and discovery, and encouraging millions of people to visit and enjoy their national heritage, for ever, for everyone.

The National Trust is a private charity, completely independent from the Government, which means that it relies on membership fees, donations and legacies as well as revenue raised from commercial operations for its main source of income.

The National Trust invests over £160 million a year in the nation's environmental infrastructure. The Trust supports thousands of local enterprises and invests in parts of the country, which might otherwise be overlooked by normal market forces. It protects over 700 miles of coastline as well as over 617,000 acres of countryside, moorland, beaches and coastline. Amongst the historic properties in the Trust's care are 166 fine houses, 19 castles, 47 industrial monuments and mills, 49 churches and chapels and 35 pubs and inns.

The Trust has almost 3.5 million members making it one of the largest membership organisations in the world; in addition to this it has 43,000 volunteers. More than 12 million people visit the pay for entry properties, while an estimated 50 million visit the Trust's open air spaces.

Whilst the National Trust preserves and conserves buildings and places of great beauty, they are much more than a collection of pretty places to visit. The Trust is a major force for change that is powering local economies, protecting the environment and providing life skills through both adult training and their schools educational programmes. Keys areas of focus for the Trust are cultural heritage, wildlife preservation, climate change and the environment.

TLC has been appointed to work alongside the Trust to develop additional ranges of brand extension products, which reflect, support and enhance the core activities and mission of the National Trust, for ever, for everyone.

Core areas of opportunity: Food and drink, home and gardens, wellbeing, leisure and lifestyle, entertainment and learning.
